Passport Wallets and Other Travel Gifts To Go
Off to other Ramparts?
If your best friend announces an outing to Thailand, take the chance to give him going away gifts like those leather passport wallets, and for his mate, a pink Swiss Army knife. Forget one of the Howard Miller grandfather clocks you’ve promised a long time ago - they can’t be lugging it with them.
If you have extra cash to burn, you can take your friend and his partner to a Thai restaurant to sample some of the dishes as a start of their acquaintance with the food of the place they are going to visit. Of course, there will be the usual greasy chips and burgers in Thailand if they’ll miss the usual fast food cuisine.
Or, you could provide them one of those travel guides to Indonesia and Thailand so they can learn the local customs and learn what to avoid and what to do when interacting with the locals. This is a small but important preparation before they depart for the high seas.
Travel Gifts and More
You could also consider other gift items for friends traveling alone, retired couples taking a break, or a young college graduate in a hurry to experience life in more colorful surroundings. These travel gifts will be heartily appreciated anytime: leather passport holders, briefcases and backpacks, toiletry and manicure kits, travel alarm clocks, liquor flasks, organizers and planners, jewelry cases, laptop briefcases, and duffel bags.
For your best friends or groomsmen, give the leather briefcases they can use anytime. These quality briefcases display superb craftsmanship and contemporary styles. If you are feeling the money pinch, you will be fine giving them the leather toiletry cases or pens, which will always be indispensable for travel bugs.
Helping the First Time Traveler
If your friend is traveling for the first time, you can ease his anxiety advising him to get a passport at the nearest Department of State regional office or post office and to have the best quality of a recent 2 x 2 colored picture. He should also have an authenticated copy of his birth certificate and other documents proving his citizenship. To shorten the processing of his passport, he must present proof of his travel and his passport will be processed in just two to 12 weeks, depending on the urgency of this travel and the proof presented.
Help him go over the entry and exit requirement of the country to be visited as there may be more documents involved. If your friend is staying for more than 30 days, he should be able to show a visa. But for 30 days or less, US residents do not need a visa, but must have a passport ready and present a return trip ticket.
There may be some restrictions though about travel to Thailand because of security risks. It’s best to follow the advice of the embassy or the State Department and make sure your friend takes those mandatory shots. Traveling should be a pleasure and an adventure, not a bad experience because of lack of preparation and wrong expectations.
